Matthew 6:1-19 - Worship by Humility
Jesus continues to teach the Sermon On The Mount to His followers. The specific focus is The Lord’s teaching on the motive of the heart in our giving, praying, and fasting. These spiritual foundational blocks are part of preparing our hearts for experiencing God’s grace. Jesus is making the distinction of what needs to be occurring within our hearts when we give, pray and fast. He warns of the pride that motivates the heart to want others to see us as being spiritual by the external act. Where Jesus is directing us to the inward action of showing our true devotion to God by giving, praying and fasting through humility. Not being concerned with peoples evaluations, but desiring only Christ’s righteous observation of our hearts and motives.
