We are Clarke and Cindy Lauffer, the church planting couple who began Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland County 25 years ago.
We were sent out of Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia, one of the original churches birthed out of the Jesus Movement Revival of the early 70’s. That time was amazing, as many young people all across the Nation became born again, as there was a great hunger for the answer to life. We at that time were lost in sin and didn’t know it was possible to know God personally. Through reading the New Testament, and asking God to make Himself known to me, I discovered in the Gospel of John, in 14:6, this quote of Jesus, “I am the way I am the truth and I am the life, no man comes to the Father but through Me.”
As I experienced the miracle of a brand new life and the weight and guilt of my sins being completely forgiven, I now wanted to live for Christ. My girlfriend Cindy, who eventually became my wife now of 46 years, was also captivated by the Gospel of Christ and got saved a few months after me in a little church in Atlantic City, NJ.
We then decided to go to Bible College to learn the Bible, so we could be more effective in telling others of God’s love shown to humanity through Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. After many years of raising a family and working our careers, we had a calling to return back home to Western, PA, to start a Calvary Chapel.
So, 25 years ago, we had our first service. We have seen many lives transformed by Christ who also saved us. There is nothing more exciting than to see people whose lives are broken from the heartache of sin brought back to New Life through the power of Christ.
We are now part of a growing, vibrant, loving community of faith, that is focused upon worship of Christ and the simple teaching of God’s Word through the entire Bible.
We have been truly blessed to be the pioneers of this local church, and are excited to mentor and train those in the Word who call Calvary Chapel their church home.
We have our family nearby and love to spend a lot of time with our 6 grandkids. Our hobbies are working out, swimming, riding our bikes, and enjoying trips to the New Jersey Shore, where we both discovered our relationships with Christ our Savior.
Jesus is our greatest friend who teaches us daily how to live in good and bad times and who alone is the inspiration for joyful living. We look forward to meeting many new families in the days ahead at our new location in the heart of Greensburg.
We also have a radio station, broadcast out of our facility, And you can hear Living Waters Of Grace on 100.3 FM at 7:30 am and 12:30 and 5 pm. Be sure to check out http://www.graceradio.fm
