In today’s modern church culture, the view of a good minister is unlike what the scriptures teach. People think of a good minister as being all inclusive and endorsing sin; someone who tells jokes; keeps the messages short; believes there’s many ways to Heaven; and no such thing as hell or judgement. One who will sanction abortion and same sex marriage and certainly doesn’t truly believe the Bible as God’s Word.
The Apostle Paul’s admonition to Timothy as a pastor was to teach the church not to give heed to what was listed above, but to warn the church about false teachers who give heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. A good minister is the man who faithfully teaches the entire counsel of God’s Word, and who is sound in doctrine and one who endeavors to live as an example of Jesus – to guard the flock of God from the evil one.
