Legalism of Religion

Paul teaches Timothy the issue of not understanding the intention and purpose of the Law of Moses. Using the Law in the midst of the New Covenant was causing false doctrines to infect the believers in Ephesus. Today, we also must guard against any teaching that enforced some kind of works righteousness that is generated by the flesh. Dead religion cannot save or deliver anybody from the power of sin. Paul was driving home the message of the power of the cross and the work only Christ our Savior could accomplish. The Law shows us our need of Christ, not how to be made right with God apart from His Gospel.
