John speaks to his readers, and us, concerning the great Love in which the Lord loves us. His love for us is so great that He calls us His children. Because we are His Children, our life should reflect the image of our Father just as those who are unbelievers reflect the image of their father – the devil. This doesn’t mean that believers live sinless perfect lives. We do still sin. But that we should not live habitual sinful lives. But thank God that when we do sin, and we confess our sins, in His grace, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are children of God!
